The Signet Online search facility
The Signet Online search facility is an online resource for lawyers and information
professionals consisting of a powerful federated search tool.
What does it do?
- It provides an easy centralised and simultaneous search of a selected range of authoritative
Scottish, UK and European legal resources as well as access to these resources.
What does it search?
- It searches through a selected range of online resources containing material such
as cases, legislation, consultations and guidance. Full details of the resources
being searched can be found in Information sources.
- It also searches through The Signet Library’s own catalogue and copies of any item
can be ordered by contacting The Signet Library’s information
services team.
- It concentrates on Scottish law, but also includes information on UK and European
developments. Additional jurisdictions will be added in due course.
- It only searches specific resources and does not provide access to subscription
based publications such as The Scots Law Times or Session Cases. If you are in any
doubt as to the range of sources being searched then please go to
Information sources or contact The Signet Library’s information
services team.
- The search results will not automatically show whether a particular case has been
appealed. Or offer a consolidated version of a particular act. It is up to the user
to establish whether a particular item is the most up to date version or authority
and further searching may be necessary. For more help refer to Search tips or contact
The Signet Library’s information services team .
How does it work?
- The Signet Online search facility offers user-specified searching of indexed, uploaded
documents, alongside federated searching of selected resources from the internet
using custom-built search connectors.
- It is available to registered users who can access and download content freely.
- Please note that this search facility is a beta application which means that the
precise form of the application is open to minor modification and adjustment on
the basis of feedback and suggestions from the user community. Registered users
are invited to comment on its content and functionality, and to recommend additional
uploads and links using the Feedback form. All feedback
will be treated in confidence.
- The Signet Online search facility aims to provide a high standard of accessibility
for all users, conforming to the “AA” standard W3C’s Web Accessibility Initiative.
